ABOUT
Lau Hiu Kong, Lawrence (劉曉江) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Hong Kong. His works cover music composition, theatre performance, audiovisual art and installation. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in composition and electronic music and Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Media at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and The Hong Kong City University respectively. During his years of studying in the academy, he has been awarded many scholarships including the HSBC Hong Kong Scholarships, CASH Composition Scholarship, The Lions & Joseph Koo Music Foundation Composition Scholarships, Musicus Society Trey Lee, etc.
As a composer/electronic musician/sound artist, Lawrence’s works ranging from numerous chamber ensembles, orchestra, Chinese instruments, live electronics and live audiovisual works, etc. His music has been performed at international music festivals and art events including the Asian Composer League Conference and Festival, Hong Kong Art Festival, highSCORE Music Festival Italy, Musicus Fest, etc.
Lau has written for not only concert music but also for theatre, where he explores the various concepts in terms of theatrical and spatial sound designs. His recent collaborated artists and organisations include Unlock Dancing Plaza, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Little Breath Creative Workshop, Hong Kong Contemporary Musiking, etc.
Lau is also active in media art exhibitions/festivals, developing his new approaches to combine music, sound and technology. His collaborative audiovisual works were presented by exhibitions including Developing the Future.zip NY (New York 3-Legged Dog), Artechouse Live Washington D.C., Nxt Museum Amsterdam, and Intervals Festivals Russia etc.
